The Solution to the ADHD Problem
In recent weeks, I received numerous emails and comments from other ADHD people asking how to maintain their ADHD symptoms, or debates telling me that ADHD medication is addictive and they have no desire to take medication, but would like to know how to control their ADHD symptoms. Better yet, ADHD doesn’t exist because their school administrators, parents, friends, and Hollywood idols “Said So.” While I asked for proof of their claims they could only say “I was told.” Yet, I didn’t find this shocking but expected, and my curiosity got the best of me, and I continued by asking:
- Are you presently taking medication
- Did you refuse medication
- Do you self-medicate
- How about illegal drug use
Sadly, their responses were:
· No, I was told it’s bad for you
· I use marijuana
· Psychiatrists are quacks.
· ADHD doesn’t exist
· I can’t focus and I’m going to lose my job
These answers led me to become involved in ADHD forums and support groups to find the main issues for “The Problem.” In the forums and support groups, I disclosed, I was a diagnosed ADHD person and wanted to help them solve the problem. For the most part, they were educated in ADHD and supported each other with their daily challenges. Whereas, others gave virtual hugs, friendship kisses or words of encouragement. I discovered those, who posted a high emotional mood indicator next to their posts.(I deleted my “Yee Haw” indicator because they would consider me unsympathetic and uncaring). I realized they shared common denominators; choosing not to take medication, failing to use their tools for daily balance, never taught how to balance their moods or challenges, or dealing with serious social issues.
This is when I decided to research their concerns and situations for in in-depth analysis and concise conclusions to help solve “The Problem”.
Are you still with me?
If so, you are among many, who want to solve “The Problem”.
